Good Food, okay service, great atmosphere – Let me start off by saying I've eaten at nearly every sushi restaurant in Little Rock and I think my two favorites are Sekisui and Kanpai. My husband and I live a few hours from Little Rock and make the trip as often as possible to eat sushi. We love it. Sekisui has everything you would need in a Japanese restaurant. Eyebrow singeing Hibachi, okay sushi (for being landlocked), and oh so good plum wine (which I get every time) at just $5 a glass. My only real complaint with Sekisui is that there are not enough staff. I have gone when it wasn't buy at all and waited nearly an hour for our tuna rolls! Sekisui is also a little pricey, but honestly all sushi places in Little Rock are.

P.S. If you decide to check out this place you MUST ask for a side of Japanese spicy mayo or Eel sauce. They have the best Eel sauce I've ever had.

We're making the trip up to Little Rock tomorrow bright and early!

Happy sushi going!

Personal Favorite – This is probably my favorite places in Little Rock. The Monster Roll and Volcano Roll are delicious. The Hibachi grilled shrimp and chicken is what I always order as main course. You want to get there early if it is on the weekend because it is busy, but any time during the week its normally not that busy.

Frozen Sashimi – Having had the hibachi grill on a previous night, we opted to try the sushi. The service was mediocre at best but inexcusably slow and not overly friendly. We first had a roll which was okay but certainly not worth the price tag (at least compared to the many other places we've had sushi around the country) -- I would compare it to the sushi we can get at our grocery store. We then tried the tuna sashimi. It was not even close to fresh, having a very unpleasant, fishy flavor. We then waited around for a long time wondering if they had lost the rest of our order. Only after asking the waitress did a plate suddenly (and rather suspiciously) appear. The smoked samon was disappointingly over-cooked and tasted more like a bad, fishy, rubbery version of bacon than good, clean fish. And then we found out why there was such a long wait for the rest of our order. Apparently they were hoping the Yellow Tail would thaw out in time; alas it was still very, very frozen.

I will never, ever eat here again.

Avoid at all costs – We had a horrible experience. When we first got there it was never told to us that if we just sat at the reg. table we could not get all orders from the menu. She only asked if we wanted a table or bar. When the waitress told us that it was only the beginning. We had already had to wait 15min. for the table we got. She said it would then be another 45min. to get a table at the grill. Right at 45 minutes later others were being seat at the grill that had just been cleared. Hour and half later she said I'm sorry it is taking so long I have talked to my manager but we have reservations. If we had been informed at the door that we could only order certain things we could have done eaten and gone when the guests who had made reservations had arrived. There were in no hurry to make amends for the trouble. The excuse from the waitress was we are always busy like this on the weekends. When I worked in restaurant that excuse was not tolerated by my managers. The expensive cost is not worth all that. At the beginning of the fiasco we were saying we'll never go back during the weekend. When we finally left we agreed we will Never be back weekend or not.

Poor sushi, but excellent ambiance – I wanted to like Sekisui. There are many seating options, including the traditional "no shoes" tables and the water-boat sushi bar. However, ambiance only goes so far.

Although the fish seems fresh, I have eaten at MANY sushi restaurants around the world (including in Japan) and I can say that Sekisui's sushi, although fresh, just doesn't taste good.

Service is adequate. Barely. Cool, aloof, Asian servers take your order and bring you what you request. They do not go out of their way to assure that you understand the menu, or get exactly what you want.

Bottom line: go elsewhere for sushi. For a business meeting, the atmosphere is moderately impressive. The restaurant is big and offers a wide assortment of seating and menu options. However, the sushi is expensive and not as tasty as others in the area. Look for Igibon, only a few blocks away.

Cool pillows – A great group place with good food. You can have a good time here with one or ten friends because the food is great (and ample!), the service is impressive, and the ambiance is, well, really cool. There's a sushi bar (of course), regular tables, and the piece de resistance- a raised platform where you and your friends can kick off your shoes and eat Japanese-style. That's right, you sit on these neat cushions on the floor and eat on low tables. A good choice for when you want to have a good time but don't want to go all out.
